Dr. Gillani is an accomplished vocalist, composer and songwriter. He has received training in Hindustani classical and Sufi music from renowned musicians from India and Pakistan. Dr. Gillani has taught ethnomusicology courses at the University of Alberta from 2010-2016. Some of his courses include, Introduction to World Music, Introduction to Ethnomusicology: Popular music of Bollywood (Hindi Cinema), and Indian Music Ensemble. He has designed various new courses on Hindustani classical music and served as a principle instructor of Hindustani classical vocals and taught various Classical ragas, Bandish, Ghazals and Sufi songs.

Dr. Gillani teach Hindustani classical vocals/Ghazals/Geets and Sufi music privately at his residence in Edmonton and an online via Skype and Zoom.
